“Grandpa, can you tell me what is the real value of my life ?” an unexpected question arose in the mind of small child while playing in front of his house. Grandpa left stunned for a moment thinking about the question and the age of his grandson for asking it.
Moments later Grandpa replied, “Well ! If you are really interested in knowing the real value of your life you must do what I say to you.” Thinking for a while grandson replied, “Well, if not too difficult for my age to do, I can do what you want me to do.” “Good ! Take this piece of stone and go to different people in market and get the exact price for this stone. Remember one thing, you should not sell this to anyone, just get the price for it.” Grandpa handed him a piece of red shining stone taken out of an old wooden box from his cupboard.
First went the little child to the vegetable seller in market and asked, “Uncle, I have a shining stone with me and I need to sell it.” A boy took out the Stone from his pocket to show it to the seller. “What best price would you offer me for this shining stone ?” Taking stone in his hand and gazing over it from all sides, vegetable seller replied, “I don’t know what this stone is, but it can be a good gift for my small daughter to play with it. Looking at its unique quality and shine, I offer you a sack full of potatoes as a price for it.” “OK thanks ! Please give my stone back.” boy replied.
Putting stone back in his pocket boy went further to the grocery shop. He asked to the Shopkeeper, “I have a shining stone to sell, can you tell me the best price you would offer me for it .” Looking at the reddish shine and finely carved corners of the stone Shopkeeper said, “This looks amazing, it can be a best decorative shining piece of my shop. I offer you 5 sacks full of the most costly rice in my shop.” “Thanks for your offer Sir, I will come back to you later.”
Boy took his stone back and went to Gold Merchant.
“Sir, I see that you are selling most costly things in your shop. Could you do me a favour ?” taking out a red shining stone out of his pocket and showing it to Gold Merchant, boy asked, “What best price would you offer me for this red stone ?”
Thinking for a while and exploring the beauty of the stone, a Merchant replied, “This is beautiful and unique piece of its own kind. If I put this in one of the golden ring in my shop, I would get paid twice the price of that golden ring. So, I would offer you a golden ring for this stone.” Boy thought as I go to different people I get different price for the same stone, I need to know what this stone really is and what is its exact value.
Boy said the Gold Merchant, “Thank you for the offer Sir. Do you know exactly what this red stone is ?”
“Sorry ! young boy, I am unaware of this Stone. But I know one old man who can help you. He is a Diamond Merchant and a good friend of my dad.” Gold Merchant gave the boy his address.
Boy went to Diamond Merchant and he was surprised to see various shining stones with different colours adorning the shop. He took his stone out of his pocket and showed it to an old Diamond Merchant. Diamond Merchant was mesmerized looking at the stone, as if his dream comes to true. Before a boy could ask something, Merchant said, “This is the most precious gem in the world, this is nothing but a very rarely found gem in the world, The Red Diamond. I have only heard of it in my childhood from my father and its today I actually got a chance to see it in my hand. This is priceless !”
Before a Diamond Merchant could offer a price for it, boy snatched Diamond from his hand and ran to his Grandfather. “Grandpa, finally I discovered the price for this Stone, and this is very rarely found gem in the world. Diamond Merchant could have given any price that I would ask for.”
“Yes my child, I know this is priceless and most valuable gem in the world. You have asked me for the real value of your life. And as like the gem your life is the most precious gem in the world, it is priceless. But very few in the world knows the real value of it. Some of them will price your life for a sack of potatoes for their children to play with and some will price it for 5 sacks of rice to decorate their shop and some like Gold Merchants will take out their profits from your life, they will use your skills to fill their pockets.”
“Beware my child, there are many people in this world that will use your life for their fun and enjoyment or to decorate their parties. And there are rare people in this world who will help you identifying the real value, the real purpose of your life ! ” Grandpa replied.
“But Grandpa, how would I identify such rare people who knows real value of life ?” asked child curiously.
“This is not an easy thing to identify. Just notice one thing, If you encounter such people in your life you will start loving yourself and enjoy your life in all situations either good or bad. And only if you are lucky you will meet such kind of rare people in your life.”
