foolish donkey

Getting into problems.. the donkey(foolish) way..

January 29, 2020 Satish

A merchant loaded his donkey with bags of salt to go to the market in order to sell them. The merchant and his donkey were walking along together. They need to cross a river on the way to the market. Unfortunately, the donkey slipped and fell into the river and noticed that the bags of salt loaded on his back became lighter.

Donkey was very lazy and always hesitant of doing work, he got the trick.

There was nothing the merchant could do, except return home where he loaded his donkey with more bags of salt. As they readied the slippery riverbank, now deliberately, the donkey fell into the river and wasted all the bags of salt on its back again.

Who digs a trap for others ends up in it himself !

The merchant was wise enough to know the donkey’s trick. Hence, he wanted to teach the donkey a lesson. The next day, he loaded the donkey with loads of cotton. When the cotton gets wet, it becomes heavy. The donkey without knowing this played the same trick that day also.

On reaching the river he again fell into the water. But instead of the load becoming lighter, it became heavier. The donkey suffered a lot carrying the heavy load.

The merchant laughed and said: “Foolish donkey … your trick had been discovered, now carry the heavy load !”

Sometimes knowingly or unknowingly we try to trick ourselves by unloading the burden of responsibilities we are living with. We ignore responsibilities for short term happiness and embrace long term pain for ignoring them.

“You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.” Abraham Lincoln

Do not teach your children to ignore responsibility, teach them to accept it.

Never ask God to solve your problems, ask God to give you enough strength to solve your problems.

Beware, there is no trap so deadly as the trap you set for yourself !
